The Third Far East Contest of Environmental Journalism “Living Taiga” 2009 is over.
This year 195 pressworks of journalists from Primorsky, Khabarovsky, Kamchatka provinces, Amur and Jewish autonomous regions came in for the contest.
The newspaper “Conservation Area” took an active part in the contest, sending materials to the steering committee, that were published in 2008-2009 – “Dreams of Summer” of Irina Martynova, the specialist of “Kuznetsky Alatau” reserve, “The Valley of Geysers – the last big geographical discovery in Kamchatka” of Valery Droznin, the senior worker of the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology of the Far East Branch of the Russian Academy of Science, PhD, “Get frozen, but save a bird” of Olga Maltseva, the employee of the Sayano-Shushensky biosphere reserve.
“Conservation Area”, the newspaper of the UNDP/GEF Project “Demonstrating Sustainable Biodiversity in Four Protected Areas of Russia’s Kamchatka Krai”, was awarded the diploma of the contest’s steering committee.
Elena Labsova, the correspondent of the newspaper “Milkovsky News”, has become the winner of the nomination “Conservation Land” of the journalistic contest “Living Taiga - 2009”.
Sophia Agushkina (the chief editor of the newspaper “Milkovsky News”) and Natalia Fomina (the employee of the ecological education department of the State Biosphere Reserve “Komandorsky”, the village of Nikolskoe) were given the certificates of merit of the Department of Federal Supervision of Natural Resource Usage of the Far East Federal District.

The diplomas of the UNDP/GEF Project “Demonstrating Sustainable Biodiversity in Four Protected Areas of Russia’s Kamchatka Krai” were given to Yana Zchegolikhina, the correspondent of the newspaper “Kamchatsky Krai”, and Natalia Fomina, the employee of the ecological education department of the State Nature Biosphere Reserve “Komandorsky”.
The solemn ceremony of awarding took place in Vladivostok on August 12. Then, from August 13 till August 17 the Forum of ecological journalists, the winners and laureates of the contest and the Union of ecological press-clubs of the Far East, took place in the Lozovsky reserve on the Japan Sea coast.
