Grants of the UNDP/GEF Project work in Kamchatka

The UNDP/GEF Project “Demonstrating Sustainable Conservation of Biodiversity in Four Protected Areas of Russia’s Kamchatka Krai” has bee working with the natural park “Nalychevo” since 2003. Much has bee done for the park during the years of creative and fruitful cooperation: the office of “Nalychevo” park was built in the town of Elizovo and environmental – educational and educational – methodological centers were equipped in it. Today we would like to tell about a few projects, which were implemented in “Nalychevo” park in summer 2009. The main areas of focus of these projects: conservation of biodiversity, awareness, application of traditional environmental knowledge in PA management.
Implementation of the projects has become possible due to people, who love nature: local community, private entrepreneurs, spearheads, public organizations have received grants from the UNDP/GEF Project “Demonstrating Sustainable Conservation of Biodiversity in Four Protected Areas of Russia’s Kamchatka Krai”. 
Project 1 «Kamchatka forest is a world full of wonders»   
A set of colored post cards, introducing the important structural elements of wilderness on the examples of Nalychevo park. Theprojectperformer: Kamchatkayouthmountaincenter “MountainClimbing”.
Projects 2,3  «Production of the set of printing product of environmental subject under the title “Wildlife is nearby!” and “Arrangement of a place for environmental – educational activities under the open sky ” were implemented for “Nalychevo” park by the public organization “Rotarian Club “Elizovo - center”. The public organization “Rotarian Club “Elizovo - center” was established in Elizovo in 2002.

Project 4 «Environmental – educational work with the visitors of visit center in Avachinsky mountain crossing. This project was presented by the group of students of Kamchatka cooperative training college of the specialty “Tourism”. In June the students of this group developed the thematic excursions, discussions, quizzes, collected additional materials about the natural complexes of the park, prepared presentations, selected video materials. All the information in the form of set of materials for guides was handed to all visit centers of “Nalychevo” park.

Project 5 «Organization of work of the Center of environmental education by the name of V. Semyonov in the period of its maximum attendance»
This project was implemented in the center by the name of V. Semyonov in the center of the park.

Project 6 «Installation of the equipment in the upper part of the mounting track to Avachinsky volcano»
This project was designed and implemented by the mountain-climbers of “Kutkh” club. In the process of the project works the mountain-climbers brought all the necessary equipment to the top: 160 meters of rope, a hammer, steel spikes, notice plates, and also installed new safe handrails in the upper part of the track ro Avachinsky volcano, the information table and two stands with identification of the eight above sea level.

Project 7 «Installation of the “ Traveller’s corner” in the office of the park»
The project was presented and implemented by the entrepreneur V.V. Lasarenko. The “Traveller’s corner” included a set of furniture for visitors, a showcase and a panel board.

Project 8 «Organization of work of the visit-center on the Avachinsky mountain crossing in summer».  In the process of implementation of the grant information was prepared for the stands “Vegetation of the Avachinsky mountain crossing” for the visit-center, information content for the booklet “Alpine vegetation for Avachinsky mountain crossing and Nalychevo park” was prepared and the piggy bank of ecological games was collected.

Projects 9,10 «Building of facilities for sleeping at the cordon of “Nalychevo” park on Avachinsky mountain crossing and building of a room at the cordon of “Nalychevo” park on Avachinsky crossing». The project resulted in building of comfortable facilities for inspector and volunteers of the park, a kitchen set was installed in the room.
