The international training seminar for PA management, organized by the UNDP/GEF Project, the Kamchatka PA Association Training Center with participation of the International Consortium of PA Management took place in the Cultural center of the Regional Library in December 01 – 03, 2009.
During the period of the UNDP/GEF Project “Demonstrating Sustainable Conservation of Biodiversity in Four Protected Areas of Russia’s Kamchatka Krai” vast experience was accumulated in such spheres as strengthening of effectiveness of PA management, objectives and mechanisms of community involvement in PA management, biodiversity awareness, development of biodiversity-friendly alternative livelihoods, as well as financial mechanisms of biodiversity conservation.
The main objectives of the seminar were as follows: presentation of the UNDP/GEF Project experience: presentation of the specific examples of work, identification of achievements and mechanisms of their replication, as well as heightening of professional qualification of PA managers and staff.
Directors and staff members of Kamchatka PA, the UNDP/GEF Project team, public organizations, indigenous people communities, governmental structures, teachers of Kamchatka schools and universities took part in the seminar.
The program of activities included the interchange of presentations and discussions. Such topics, as “PA volunteers management”, “PA risk management”, “Application of the results of socio-economical studies in PA managements” were presented in the form of interactive trainings.
The main result of the three days exchange of information and hot discussions was adopted by the participants resolution with the recommendations of the UNDP/GEF Project and Kamchatka PA concerning further actions for replication of Project experience throughout the peninsular.
