Reindeer breeding problems in Kamchatka’s Bystrinskiy District


March 2, 2007 in the settlement of Esso, the Bystrinskiy District there was held a round table talks “Sustainable reindeer breeding: problems and perspectives”. The participants of the talks discussed the long list of problems concerning the state of reindeer breeding in the Bystrinskiy District and in the Koryak Autonomous Area, the succession of generations, as one of the main requirements for sustainable reindeer breeding, the conservation and protection of traditional forms of economy in the times of intensive commercial exploration, the family reindeer breeding on the territory of the traditional nature use in the Bystrinskiy Nature Park. The resolution of the talks was handed to 20 stakeholders.
The talks aimed the goal to attract the attention of the public, state authorities, and water resources users to the problems of sustainable reindeer breeding, traditional habitation and traditional economy of the Far-Eastern aboriginal population protection.
